Iowa Apple Supreme Pie

First Place Entry in Locally Grown – Iowa Fresh Apple Cooking Contest
2017 Iowa State Fair
Recipe by John Sunvold – Cedar Falls, IA

9-10 inch pie pan, serves 8.

Crust
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
3 Tbsp. sugar
5 Tbsp. butter, melted

Mix crumbs, sugar, and butter together. Press mixture into pie pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Cream Cheese Layer
4 oz. cream cheese
4 oz. Cool Whip
1/4 cup powdered sugar

Beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Fold in Cool Whip. Spread on pie.

Apple Layer
16 oz. package of Iowa Choice Harvest frozen Iowa Grown Apples
4 Tbps. butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 1/2 Tbsp. corn starch
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup apple juice concentrate

Place all ingredients in a covered baking dish at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Stir. Continue to back until apples are desired texture, checking every 5-10 minutes. Cool and chill. Spread on cream cheese layer. Chill.

Whipped Cream
4 oz. white chocolate
4 cups cream

Melt white chocolate and 1 cup cream together and chill thoroughly. Whip rest of cream to soft peaks and add white chocolate mixture slowly. Whip to stiff peaks. Top pie with whipped cream.

Garnish and decorate as desired. Top with toasted nuts.
